How does Mist Cooling work?

High pressure Mist Cooling is one of the most effective, and efficient, methods available for cooling open outdoor areas. Mist Cooling systems have been used word wide for cooling hotels and resorts, restaurant and bar outdoor seating, backyards and patios, as well as event cooling and sports sidelines. They are also used in a multitude of harsh industrial, construction, manufacturing and agricultural settings for climate control, humidification and dust suppression.

Mist Cooling works by forcing water through specially designed misting nozzles to create a fog of ultra fine water droplets. A common misconception is that misting is meant to get you all wet to cool you off. Rather, the tiny droplets or fog, quickly evaporate, cooling the surrounding air. Properly designed, a mist cooling system will work with prevailing winds and air movement, and are often combined with fans to move mist or cooled air into the cooled zones. Mist cooling can reduce the temperature up to 30 degrees Fahrenheit in very dry climates. And, it can still perform quite effectively even in very humid climates, often reducing temperatures by as much as 8-10 degrees by employing fans to facilitate evaporation.

Our high pressure pumps, misting fans, and fixed line misting systems are designed to efficiently introduce super fine mist into the area to be cooled. Our systems incorporate the principles of Flash Evaporative Cooling and Convective Cooling, to deliver maximum results.


Mist Cooling and Humidity

Many residents & businesses are just now realizing that High Pressure Misting (Fogging) is a very effective & efficient way to cool down large areas even in high humidity climates. In fact, many of the more humid states such as Texas, Florida & other South Eastern States with a very high average humidity, are among our largest growing states with equipments sales more then doubling since 2006.

This is in a large part because people are finally being educated to the fact that high pressure mist systems can cool down any area in any climate as long as they are installed properly. With the use of the correct size mist nozzles, nozzle & mist line placement, pump size and the correct use of misting fans we can cool down almost any area as much as 25 degrees with out getting anyone wet. This is because we have the capability of producing such a fine mist droplet that it evaporates almost immediately even in the most humid conditions.

Cooling Principle

By forcing water through our specially designed misting nozzles, we create a fog of ultra fine water droplets with an average size of 50 microns or less. These tiny water droplets quickly absorb the energy (heat) present in the environment and evaporate, becoming water vapor (gas). The energy (heat) used to change the water to a gas is eliminated from the environment, hence the air is cooled

Relative humidity is the amount of moisture in the air compared to the amount of moisture the air could absorb at the same temperature, is a crucial factor in determining cooling potential. The lower the relative humidity, the more water can be vaporized, and the more heat can be removed.

Evaporative Cooling can be used effectively in most geographical locations. This is because when temperatures reach their peak during the day, humidity is normally at its lowest point.

Chart For Maximum Potential Drop:
Example: If the temperature is 90 degrees F with 30% relative humidity and a maximum temperature drop of 25 degrees F, use of the High Efficiency Portable Cooler could drop the temperature to 65 degrees F (subtract the Catalog termperature of 90 degrees F from the maximum temperature drop of 25 degrees F).
